Off we pop again, this time just down the road to another much smaller beach resort. This time to the little town of Mazunte, a place known for its bohemian character. We arrived on a collectivo, a small truck with an open back that people pack into. Unfortunately I manage to position myself right next to the person with the worst BO you’ve ever smelt 😂. The boys are horrified to find out that not only does this little truck not have seatbelts, but that we have to stand up and hold on to rails for dear life. It’s very difficult to explain that we can do this here in Mexico but there’s not a chance we’d put you at this risk at home!! It’s Johnnys pick of accommodation tonight and guess what, we arrive at a campsite 😳. We walk in and much to the boys delight, it’s deathly silent!! It appears that we’ve rocked up to an Ashram of a hostel….silence only between the hours of 7pm-10am!! Omg you try keeping 2 boys quiet, especially when the toilets are very open and you can hear everything t...

We’ve just left Puerto Escondido, a beautiful surf town on the Pacific coast. We weren’t intending to hit the coast quite so early, but after our slight mishap with our first flight 😳, we still very much wanted to see the whales and this was the next best destination to do so, without getting another flight to Baja. The beaches are absolutely stunning here in Puerto Escondido, with really great surf (with many surfing competitions between May-November). The town is a bustling backpacker town with the usual strip of bars and restaurants however, most of these are very upmarket (just like the dorm beds with curtains around them!!). On our first night out in the town we sat down to have a good meal in a very nice restaurant bar which had a really great vibe, full of backpackers. An older man then came over to us to say ‘you do realise that you are in the biggest drug bar in town don’t you 😂! Oops, sorry boys we had no idea. The beaches here are very quiet despite being a bustling town, ...

After an amazingly beautiful bus ride through some incredible pine-forested mountains from Oaxaca, we arrive in Puerto Escondido, a beach town on the Pacific coast. Immediately the heat struck us, as the temperature had increased by about 10 degrees and also the humidity. Uh-oh, frizzy hair time! The feel of the place was instantly very different from the previous cities we visited, now to the beach vibe where scooters have side-bars that carry surf boards. Obviously the policeman with machine guns are just behind them! We arrived at dusk so no time to explore but we can hear the sea from our basic reed accommodation, an entire house 200m from the beach for £35! After a great nights sleep, we wake up early to explore the ocean and wowsers, it’s beautiful and the surf is immense. There are pelicans everywhere gliding over the surface of the water 50m from the shore. The boys are desperate to immediately get in the water and kill themselves in the waves, but we find a slightly quieter ar...

We’ve had a few days behind the wheel and it’s been a great bit of freedom for us away from the cities and amongst nature. When I say we have been behind the wheel, it’s definitely the royal we as there is absolutely no way I would drive over here. It’s like SuperMario land and apparently no-one has to sit a driving test before they hit the roads. Johnny the ‘exspurt’ driver, did a marvellous job of course. It’s been a varied few days…we visited the fattest tree in the world, camped near some beautiful petrified waterfalls (Hierve el Agua) and climbed to 3200 metres to stay in pine forested mountains. Our first stop, Hierve el Agua, was a beautiful place amongst Agave filled mountains (used for the local Mezcal drink, amongst other things). We decided to camp as the view was spectacular, and we managed to find a Sprocket replacement, for now! Our little doggy friend was on guard outside our tent all night and followed us around all day 😍. We then moved to even higher ground in the mou...
