Puerto Escondido

After an amazingly beautiful bus ride through some incredible pine-forested mountains from Oaxaca, we arrive in Puerto Escondido, a beach town on the Pacific coast. Immediately the heat struck us, as the temperature had increased by about 10 degrees and also the humidity. Uh-oh, frizzy hair time!

The feel of the place was instantly very different from the previous cities we visited, now to the beach vibe where scooters have side-bars that carry surf boards. Obviously the policeman with machine guns are just behind them!

We arrived at dusk so no time to explore but we can hear the sea from our basic reed accommodation, an entire house 200m from the beach for £35!

After a great nights sleep, we wake up early to explore the ocean and wowsers, it’s beautiful and the surf is immense. There are pelicans everywhere gliding over the surface of the water 50m from the shore.

The boys are desperate to immediately get in the water and kill themselves in the waves, but we find a slightly quieter area 😳 where the waves are now only about 1.5m!

We also find a plethora of lizards, Iguanas and butterflies as well as Johnny using his favourite cleaning implement, the brush!

Final preparations just taking place for our big trip. The house is looking, er like our usual house! Lots of work for us tomorrow, and the next day and probably even the morning of the 2nd January. Oh geez we really do have so much stuff 😖. I’m sure an awful lot of stuff we are packing up will go straight in the bin on our return 😂. So how are we feeling: sad to be saying goodbye for now to everyone that we love to be with ❤️, and also excited / apprehensive about what is to come. We don’t quite know what to expect or even where we are going, but we are very much looking forward to the adventure that lays ahead….  What an absolute miracle that this technophobe has worked out how to set this up 😂

Mexico City

We originally thought we would immerse our children slowly into this adventure but oh no, let’s just go full throttle! We arrived in Mexico City at 6AM but it’s definitely not quiet. The usual noise of a city but with a constant hoot of the horn, dogs barking, sirens sirening(!) and the general kerfuffle of Mexicans opening up their endless Taco stands. We have spent 5 days now in the city and it’s definitely a positive start. The city is very spread out so not the easiest to see all the sites, but that’s made us get our big-family pants on 😂 and travel like the locals on the Metro, buses etc. We’ve visited museums (much to the boys disgust as Johnny likes to read every plaque available), beautiful parks, city squares, enourmous football stadiums (thanks Seb) ancient ruins and generally walked the streets of Mexico City until our shoes have worn holes in! We have stayed in a fab area where there are cafes and restaurants a plenty, and very upmarket ones at that, but there is a reminde...
