Puerto Escondido contd…..
We’ve just left Puerto Escondido, a beautiful surf town on the Pacific coast. We weren’t intending to hit the coast quite so early, but after our slight mishap with our first flight 😳, we still very much wanted to see the whales and this was the next best destination to do so, without getting another flight to Baja. The beaches are absolutely stunning here in Puerto Escondido, with really great surf (with many surfing competitions between May-November). The town is a bustling backpacker town with the usual strip of bars and restaurants however, most of these are very upmarket (just like the dorm beds with curtains around them!!). On our first night out in the town we sat down to have a good meal in a very nice restaurant bar which had a really great vibe, full of backpackers. An older man then came over to us to say ‘you do realise that you are in the biggest drug bar in town don’t you 😂! Oops, sorry boys we had no idea.
The beaches here are very quiet despite being a bustling town, but you only need to walk around a small headland, and you reach the ‘David Hasselhoff’ beach. Here, there is literally no-one around for miles, apart from the beautiful pelicans gliding over the water. They then dive down at frantic pace to catch their daily feed, and carry on their little journey with belly’s full. Despite the quietness, the boys still find need to hide behind their towels when taking their swimmers off….little do they know that the next beach is the nudist beach!! Not only are the beaches beautiful, but they are teaming with underwater life, with fish literally rolling around in the breaking waves. Our biggest treat is also being able to see whales from the shore…and our even bigger treat, to see them from a fishing boat. We were lucky enough to see a whole pod of whales very close to our boat, as well as dolphins, turtles and flying fish. Happy day ❤️.
What an experience you are having. Wonderful.
