San Juan del Sur
Off to the beach we go and boy oh boy, we’ve certainly arrived at a noisy spot. It’s Semana Santa, the Easter festival that is an entire ‘Holy week’ out here. I wouldn’t say that it’s a particularly religious celebration, more like who can drink the most beer and play the loudest music until your ear-drums burst! As you know Johnny loves his ‘tunes’, but OMG, this was on another level. When we arrived things were only just starting but each day, things got busier and busier until all I can say is I’ve never heard such a bloody awful racket in my entire life! Each bar played entirely different music as loud as it could and by the end of the week, our apartment that was about 500m away, was literally vibrating from the beat of each bars different music! Once again, an experience and we definitely laughed at it, but how the hell we slept for 4 nights, I don’t know.
During our time here we escaped the noise by taking a walk up to the Jesus Christ mirador, a spectacular statue sitting high above San Juan with wonderful views…and just about no noise!

To escape what could only be described as Blackpool beach, we hopped on a bus (full of tourists escaping!!) and found the most stunning little treasure of a beach, El Remanso’ a tiny little sandy bay with little beach bars, and some fantastic surf. We mucked around on surfboards for a few days, and generally had a little holiday in our travels!
