Mahahual
Remote Caribbean beach here we come! Guided only by an AirBnB pin we bundle off the collectivo. Spotting nothing familiar to the booking photos, I leave the gang and run off excited to break through the back street line of shacks and onto the palm lined oasis! Wham! ‘Like’ several thousand American tourists from the cruise ships! Before I could even get my bearings I’m chewing on several lunch menus whilst being ushered to the plethora of makeshift gift stands and massage beds. I think dam! Han is going to hate this….
With a little help, we’re back in a taxi and off to find the accomo. “Hello” we call up to the folk sitting in what we thought was going to be our 1st floor balcony. We were kindly helped in to the ground floor apt. Mould, mould and more mould! Long story short - no thanks and used their WiFi to find a lovely hotel at the better end of the gringo gauntlet!
We soon understood that if you laboured the point that we weren’t American nor off the ships we were offered the Pesos (local) menus which were considerably cheaper than the Dollar versions. Even better, due to the high winds the next 2 days were empty so we had the pick of lush beach front bars practically to ourselves where we snorkelled and played boule with baby coconuts! This is the life….
A brief hour for schoolwork, planning and farewell to our friends. In the morning it will be pack time and reverse back to Chetamul, hopefully with less imaginary chicanes!

What a trip.
