Bacalar

We leave the back of beyond to arrive in a place called Chetumal, on the Mexico / Belize boarder. It literally feels like we have arrived in Florida ๐Ÿ˜‚. Mixed feelings about this…it feels like we are no longer in ‘ real Mexico’ yet we spot KFC and it feels really good, sorry we had to do seize the opportunity!!

Thankfully, we are not staying in Chetamul long and we jump in a taxi to a place called Bacalar, where there is a giant freshwater lake for us to play in. Well let’s just say we nearly died  in the taxi on the way there, I seriously think the driver was blind,  (brake-accelerate to 120km/hr, swerve, mount the curb, repeat….), literally the worst driver I’ve ever driven with. After a few desperate prayers, we arrive in Bacalar  to another gorgeous little guest house where we are instantly greeted by the owners. Home for a while again. Not only are the owners very welcoming, but in our room next-door, there is an English family (Kat, Nathan and Zeffer) with an 11 year old boy, happy boys!

Bacalar is a lovely little place with a lovely chilled out vibe. There are pontoons over the lake that you can jump off, and floating cabanas where you can sit and drink beer. The lake has  endless shades of blue, that seem to change every few minutes according to the sunlight. It really is very beautiful, however the lake is filled with crocodiles!! Weirdly, you are able to swim in the lake as the crocs don’t bother humans ๐Ÿ˜ฆ. A lovely few days spent here, made even more special with our English buddies.
