Puerto Angel
Our next stop is just a few miles down the coast to a gorgeous little fishing village called Puerto Angel. We arrive at our accommodation to be welcomed by the owners with open arms into their little home. The house looks like a little ramshackle of a place, but like a lot of homes in Mexico, as soon as you go through the ramshackle, what lies behind is a gorgeous home. Much to my delight they have a washing machine, and much to the boys delight, the owner is a hairdresser! When my head is turned, Seb manages to grab himself a ‘skin-fade’😳. Good job we are in Mexico and it will grow soon!!
Not only do the owners welcome us with open arms, they look after us. They are instantly so kind, clearly recognising we need some TLC after the not-so-nice campsite! They lend us their snorkels, masks and boogie-board, and take us on a little tour of the village including a little trot to one of the local beaches. OMG it’s beautiful. Unlike the recent beaches that we have visited, this beach is completely hidden away and is literally a little paradise bay. On this occasion however, if we venture out into the sea, we will probably kill ourselves as the waves are so big 😳. We enjoy the paradise for a while and then head back to the fishing port where there is a nice beach for us to swim alongside the fisherman. This area provides us with our first glimpse of the coral, and we are treated to a beautiful view of the underwater world with some brightly coloured fish of all shapes and sizes.
We spent a few days in this little village and it’s been a perfect refresh. We’ve had some gorgeous beach days…books actually got opened, we’ve lazed on the beach, climbed on the rocks and swum amongst the coral. The backpacks are clean, the hair is styled, and we have generally been treated like royalty. We have tried all kinds of local delicacies, courtesy of our beautiful hosts, including some local coffee, fresh fish, watermelon and papaya sorbet (the best I’ve ever tasted and all natural), tyludas, spicy sauce that nearly blew our heads off and quite frankly, we would like to stay here and be pampered for a bit longer. The village was very basic, but despite the locals having next to nothing, they have been so kind to us. A great lesson to the boys that you don’t need much in life to be happy, or kind, and they have certainly made our past few days very special. Thanks David and your Mum!

But ho-hum, onwards we go…next stop a night bus away from the coast to Tuxtla.
